Metropolitan Museum of Art director Thomas P. Campbell and Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton unveiled images and details of the exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty
, from May 4 to July 31 2011 in New York. It featured fantastical creations from each of McQueen’s collections, one hundred pieces of ready to wear from the McQueen archives and approximately seventy accessories - beginning with Nihilism (1994) and ends with his posthumous collection Angels & Demons (2010).

It featured fantastical creations from each of McQueen’s collections, one hundred pieces of ready to wear from the McQueen archives and approximately seventy accessories - beginning with Nihilism (1994) and ends with his posthumous collection Angels & Demons (2010).The exhibit coincide with the released of the book, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty by Andrew Bolton, which will include an interview with McQueen's sucessor, Sarah Burton and feature McQueen's most iconic and radical pieces.
McQueen was the most influential, imaginative, and provocative designer of his generation and was best known for his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations to provoke reactions from his audience.
I have always been awed by not only the thematic underpinnings to his work but also his innovative use of materials. Feathers became a skirt, alligator heads peeked out of jacket epaulettes, carved wooden boots became prosthetic legs, a jawbone became jewelry, mollusk shells became a corset. His creations were an outlet for his deepest emotions, often the darkest aspects of his imagination.
Seeing some of the divine pieces, I was thrilled by this recognition of British fashion in the world as well as his stand as an artist in his own right, even if his extraordinary and rare artistic vision was not widely appreciated. Each piece does the artist justice. The word "designer" does not fully capture his genius. McQueen was said,
"For me, what I do is an artistic expression which is channeled through me. Fashion is just the medium."
How I wish I was there admiring each piece in the exhibition, like how I did with Valentino. Oh well, throwing my hands back in the air, lying comfortably on my chair, shutting my eyes closed, I can already imagine the book looking great on my coffee table. =)

The Singapore Repertory Theatre’s (SRT) acclaimed Shakespeare in the Park returned again with a production of the tragedy Macbeth.
Long before vampires and witches become fashionable, Shakespeare wrote Macbeth, one of his most dazzling and mysterious masterpieces. I was fascinated by the political intrigue, impressed by the love exciting battle scenes and most of all, awed by the relish luscious language (which made me wonder how life would be if we all communicate in it).
Directed by the celebrated British director Nikolai Foster (Flashdance on the London West End, the UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love), Macbeths’ destructive, volatile and sexually charged relationship will be brought to the fore in this contemporary take on The Bard’s last great tragedy. Foster trimmed peripheral scenes and characters to propel the rhythm of his Hollywood thriller-esque Macbeth with bloody battle scenes, anachronistically-detailed costumes, quirky props and pyrotechnic blasts - belched flames and smoke. He was able to give the audience an immersive experience with four-dimensional production - sound (some of the gunshots were slightly loud), light, music and murder by weaving the outdoor environment into the production's story line.
My fave are Adrian Pang (always), who played the luckless General and handles the dramatic final scenes with aplomb and the three witches, who deserved all the applause for their realness in the characters. The malevolence and spookiness of the witches are portrayed perfectly. During intermission, they crept and crawled as well as scorned at the audience, successfully sets the mood for the following scenes and subsequently won my heart. The interplay of ambience and stage lighting also contributed much to the sinister atmosphere.
All in all - sitting on a picnic mat, with blessed weather, beneath the clear evening sky with gentle wind stroking your face, watching Shakespeare's most famous supernatural suspense-thriller of all time kept me quite literally bewitched and gave me an unforgettable experience!

Standing with my four wheeled luggage in my hand, I took a deep breath at Malpensa airport in Milan. A chilly breeze reminds me that I am FINALLY in Italy.
"So, this is how living your dream feels like, eh?"
I looked up into the big blue sky and smiled, "Thank you".
To many, Italy could be a travel destination, a holiday break or even a fashion shopping spree. But for me, it's a dream - A dream I had since I was 17. Yes, it took me this long to go. I'm not sure why but I'm glad it is at this stage of my life I went. I used to think, I should travel with my dearest friends or save it for a special occasion like honeymoon perhaps.
But I hv come to realize, there ain't no special moment, no special day, no special occasion. This moment is special for a reason. Today is special because it is a gift and that's why it's call Present. Every occasion is special in its way - be it the way you like or not: it is special nevertheless.
My dream is just to meet my dearest friend again, whom I last seen when I was 17. It was a promise that we made in tears that we will one day see each other again. To teenagers with no money of their own, flying over the ocean seems impossible. We don't know when, we don't know how but we know the friendship we had built all these years will still be the same when that day comes. And that day did come. Our bond is indeed still the same. The differences is we were girls back then and we are now matured into ladies. I thank God each and every day for making this happen.
I couldn't be happier.
The trip couldn't be more prefect.
The companions couldn't be more awesome.
Although 24th March - 2nd April is quite a short trip but I am VERY glad I took the leap and gotten my feet wet in Italy because I now have the unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. =)

My father often used to talk about that old proverb, "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day". In other words, everybody you meet has something to teach you – if you take the trouble to find it. The most unlikely person can enlighten your life. That’s tremendously important for the self-worth of the people you meet, as well as your own.
The are all sorts of ways in which we’re not equal, but we are all equal in what we can strive for. When I interviewed Senator Robert Kennedy back in 1968 – the last interview he gave before his assasination – I asked him how he would like to be remembered. He replied, "Well, there is a line of Albert Camus that says, 'This is a world in which children suffer.' I’d like to have made a contribution to lessening that suffering." Kennedy spoke a lot about making a contribution. He used to say, "For if we do not do this, then who will to this?". It’s so simple : if you have a talent, you have a duty to use it to the full.
Making a contribution and making a difference – they should be linked – is not only something that famous people can do, or that dead politicians can be quoted on. It is something that everyone can do in their own lives…

At the end of the day, we are all the same.
Busy looking after ourselves, busy making a living. We hardly ever look at things through other people's eyes. So our world gets smaller and smaller. Things slipped away unnoticed. And our fate changes its course without us knowing it. Who among us can say we've lived a life without regrets? (Stop trying to use justification to convince yrself on regret's non existence.)
I was so impetuous when I was young. But it's the essence of youth that made us face life and reality without thinking of consequences. Looking back now, I want to thank you all out there for giving me the best memories of each step and each phase of my life. I wouldn't want it any other way!
Some said life is a downhill after 30. I now know the party has just begun, baby!

While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked up a stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench.
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. The child asked, with pain in his eyes, 'Dad, when will my fingers grow back?'
The man was so hurt and speechless, he went back to his car, kicking it a lot of times. Devastated by his own actions, he sat in front of the and saw the scratches - 'LOVE YOU DAD'.
The next day, that man committed suicide.
Anger and Love have no limits - choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life.
Things are to be used and people are to be loved. But the problem in today's world is that people are used and things are loved.
Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

Strange Fruit is a world renowned repertoire from Melbourne, Australia performing a wide variety of themes and stories in theatre, dance and circus using elevated or rather very unique medium. They have been awarded The Premio Del Publico Award – Valladolid (Spain) in 2003, The Governor of Victoria Export Award (Arts & Entertainment) in 2006. They had performed in over 50 different countries, at over 450 international festivals and events to more than 5 million people.
I am honored to have the chance to watch their sublime performance - The Spheres in Chinatown during the Chinese New Year festive. Perched atop on 5 meters high flexible poles, bending and swinging in the air, the audience were fascinated in absolute wonder - jaw dropped expression was common across the crowds. Poles are extremely strong to bear the human weight that allows the performer to flexibly bow at impossible angles and swayed back and forth in an elegant and spellbinding manner - like many dandelions in a light breeze. In fact, the idea was originally from images of wheats swinging along with the gentle wind in the fields.
The Spheres takes a dreamy as well as a magical journey through the miracle of birth and humanity's relationship to our planet. Performers stand on white, illuminated, gigantic fabric orbs and rise above their existence. It was an astonishing and mesmerizing show.
As much as photos and videos can show, it doesn't do them justice. You have to be there personally to experience the sublime, hypnotic beauty and wonder in utter fascination.

Love this orchestral country pop ballad, especially the indelible melody accompanied by the dark mood and the pleading lyrics.
Life is rough and heartbreaking at times. Do you hv a time in the year that you always think back on? Or when the calendar turn into that particular month, memories would flood back? I believe each one would hv ours and mine ain't December.

Such a hauntingly beautiful song.
It is a great song about pining for someone. It was featured in the 2004 movie Closer, which captivated the very complicated relationships to express the pain and confusion of love.
There are various version of the meaning of the song:
* The "Blowers Daughter" refers to the daughter of a clarinet teacher. A "Blower" is someone who plays a wind instrument.
* Its about the daughter of a glass blower. In England Scotland and Ireland, a glass blower is reffered to as a blower.
* In a concert, Damien said this was written about his flute teacher's daughter.
* Drawn off from his experience as a mortgage broker, who did cold calling all day. He grew sick of speaking to people for 8 hours a day without seeing anyone's face, and he began to fantasize about the people behind the many voices he heard. One summer day, while trying to reach a man, he heard the soft, melodic and sweet voice of a young lady. (Blower is slang for phone)
He was actually calling for the father but her wasn't in. Protocol is that he should hang up the phone but despite of the risk of being sacked, they kept talking and Damien couldn't stop thinking about her and he kept calling back for her. Damien then began a secret relationship and always called her when he knew the father wasn't in. He dreamed of her at night, daydreamed about her all day long.
This continued for over a month, but unfortunately, she stopped answering the calls. Confused by the abrupt end, Damien was obsessed in anger and after discovering her address, he went over and hidden, he watched the same mesmerizing voice shouting out, "Bye Mom!" from a school uniform girl. Staring in shock, all the pieces of the puzzles fell in place. During school holidays, she was home and played games leading him on and when holidays are over, she stopped. The mysterious girl was the inspiration of this beautiful song.

Anna Chong, the 23 year old London College of Fashion student with BA (Hons) Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear created a fierce deluxe mini Lady GaGa collection for toy makers Bandai brand - Harumika mini mannequins, which will be display at London Toy Fair 2011.

許多研究證實，「我們想像中的不幸福，才是造成我們不幸福的原因。」其實，幸福的啟動鈕，就在我們的腦中，它，取決於你看事情的角度。
幸福是需要練習的，只要更改你腦中的程式設定，從正面思考，幸福將不需遠求。而人際互動的品質，更是幸福感裡的關鍵，擁有一群可以同甘共苦的親友，遠勝過存摺裡的數個零。其實人生好美，美在那些我們總不曾特別留意的地方!
