881 is the first musical movie from Singapore. It's the best local show I hv watched so far!Being a huge fan on musical, I luv this one in particular, even if the locals sneered at the mention of the movie! It was released on 27th Aug 07 and it's still screening to this date. And of course, with all the praises of this movie, now that I mention 881 to my colleagues, we would ended up singing, "Ji rang, Ji phua ...."
This movie opened up my eyes to the world of Getai, a series of concerts performed for spirits during the seventh lunar month in various estates around Singapore. It has become a sub-culture of sorts and the neighbourhood heartlands are fertile grounds for entertainment such as these. It's like this other world that I never know of but hv been existing all along!
I'm glad I watched this movie!!!
