December Rains (雨季) the Musical - my first Chinese musical and the first Mandarin musical ever written in Singapore. It was first staged in 1996.

I was totally mesmerized by Kit Chan. Once again, she outshines all the others and her fantastic vocals wowed the audience. Ever since I watched Forbidden City, I'm totally her fans! Without her, this musical would be just plain boring. George Chan is another of my favorite - he never fails to awe me. He does remind me of someone I know. =) I specifically love the creativity from the set designer in the illusion of a slanting stage and the minimalist approach towards the beautiful backdrop.

The plot is quite predictable and flat - a love story sets in Singapore's turbulent1950s and 80s. But the moving ballads did make up for it, as it strongly delivered the dilemma of chasing one's dream vs love, pain of losing a loved one as well as unrequited love.

December Rains will be remembered by many, as the play that left them reminiscing about the "what ifs" and the "what could have beens" in life ...
