Yunnan Garden Restaurant looks like an ordinary Chinese restaurant, eh?
Wait till you hear their history. They started in 1970's, not as a restaurant but as a cafetaria to students and lecturers at Nanyang University in Singapore. With the help of word of mouth, its business is blooming and soon diversified to specialize in local seafood, cantonese cuising, HK dim sum and wedding banquets.
It is now located at one-North, NTU Alumni Club. Under the award winning Hong Kong Chef Lam Kin Ming, their dishes is indeed fresh and exquisite, except the Dim Sum (which is weird, considering the chef is from Hong Kong).
Nevertheless, the Prosperity Salmon Yu-Sheng, is the freshest and the best I ever had to this date. The sauce is not too sweet or too thick. The ingredients, especially the ginger are so fresh that you can taste its slightly sweetish and aromatic flavor at the tip of your tongue. Perhaps, pics blw doesn't justify its heavenly taste but as the sayings goes - Don't judge a book by its cover!
We also had half of the Peking duck, where they cut the most delicious parts (crispy skin and little meat) and wrapped in delicate crepes, coated with sweet plum sauce and cucumber as well as shallots. We chose to stir fry the left over duck with some other stuff and served in cabbage leaves.
The meals left all of us on a satisfied note. Very satisfied note.
Thanks to Kam who highly recommends this!
