A very fresh as well as original musical about a Singaporean performer who travels all the way to the magical Paris for his dreams performing in a cabaret. It's like a juke box musical that pays tribute to the French musical culture and infused with Singaporen slangs and quirks but with a slight tinge of the English wit.
With a diverse blend of ballads, tangos, rock and classics, the musical adds humour to the different aspects of life: youth, love, adventure, dreams, home sickness, growing old and death.
I luv both Leigh McDonald and Emma Yong's highly talented angelic voice, Robin Goh's cuteness and specially George Chan's smooth moves on the dance floor and his utmost charm. Out of all, Hossan Leong is still the best! He's also was the choreographer for one of my all time fave show, Forbidden City – Portrait of An Empress.
My fave song is 'Comme d’habitude', more commonly known for its English version, 'My Way'. The French couple behind me gasped a little and the audience was roaring with applause. (Obviously, I was applauding my hardest, hehe!)
Kinda reminds me when I made my way alone to Hong Kong after I graduated, pursuing my dreams to dive into the apparel industry - only to discover that the city and the people aren’t what I expected, romance doesn’t follow wine and candle light dinners and that the industry is much dirtier than it was rumored to. I can still remember the two years there - its sights, its sounds and its smells. Somehow, this musical takes me back there. *smile*
